When I think of November here in Western Mass, this is what I remember, dark, cold, gloomy days. Most things are brown or gray, not much color.
On Sunday morning I was up at 5:30AM and got the post up then decided to tackle more bills/budget. I stopped for breakfast and to clean the kitchen up. My brother had gotten home on time Saturday night but with jet lag and serious time zone changes, he was up after no sleep at 9AM. He decided to get stuff done, eat well later in the day, and try to sleep earlier than usual at night.
I worked on the bills/budget all morning until I was sick of it and then went to watch a Christmas movie. It had rained in the very early morning, so I didn’t want to go out and sit on the cold wet ground to sort kindling.
But by 2PM it had warmed up and dried out, so I put on my insulated coveralls, hat and gloves, and warm jacket and went out. I use a piece of cardboard as insulation from the cold ground. I had left half my movie to watch when I finished.
It took me an hour to work my way down one side of the pile and fill 2 grain sacks. I was ¾ of the way done when my son came out and I asked him to rake up the bark to go over the bank.
All told from this kindling pile, we had filled 8 sacks of small kindling. We’ve already used 3 of them. The 3+ I filled will sit near the wood stove to dry out before we can use them.
The rain had been forecast to start at 4PM and I finished well before it started. I finally finished the movie and then made some supper. I watched another movie after supper. It was still warm so I was late pulling shades and lighting just the wood stove.
On Monday I have 2 appointments and it’s to rain all day and be cold. I hope to get some ornaments on the Christmas tree, as I got nothing done on it all weekend. I might even start laundry, but I suspect that will be left to Tuesday.
