SKULLIE & DEV'S ADVENTURE TAKES A BREAK
I believe when I was last semi-active here, it was to document the build process for my new video game, Skullie & Dev's Adventure.
While it was obviously a super cool game, it was eating up TONS of time, and I was only making minor advances. Often, in order to make a small step forward the way I wanted, I would have to refactor the underlying structure to support it - at least three times I started from the ground up so I could build a proper architecture to graft the chore mechanics onto. Honestly, for all I know I may have been pretty close to the breakover point - where I have a solid foundation to build on and a growing collection of reusable pieces to shuffle around and customize to make unique levels and challenges...however, it matters not, for I have abdicated the role - at least for now.
It may be that someday I feel the urge to come back to it, but as I found myself staying up night after night, getting started any time I had a few free minutes, I just was throwing everything into it and, the truth is, I never really had a solid idea of what the game should be in the first place, only what I wanted it to feel like.
To scratch my coding itch these days, I've got a new python based project called DTMAN (Desktop Manager). I may talk about it at some point, but it's honestly more boring to read about than anything - even if it is a really powerful and cool utility app...which it is.
CAR-FLUTING
I haven't been posting many new car-fluting videos lately, but rest assured, the ol' dude's still out there jammin' on the blacktop. I don't know if it was an update to the iPhone OS or if my phone's just starting to show its age, but it's got this weird and crappy volume control function built in, apparently at the hardware level, which causes the mic to drastically reduce input intensity when dB goes above some threshold...all I know is, if I hit a high note or pass a semi, the mic switches into this protective mode and the recording sounds washy - then all of a sudden jump back up to scare the crap out of you.
So I've been playing, and still loving the quena life, but I have struggled to lock down a recording I can keep. Most recently I've been playing along with Phish, Parliament, and Audioslave. One of these days I'll have to pull over so I can try to get a better recording, we really need to catch up soon!
TEMPERED EXPECTATIONS
I'm really hoping to start getting more use out of my Hive account, like I used to. I don't want to set it up with grand expectations or anything, but I do want my fellow Hiveans to know, it's not that I'm using some other social media - I've just been ghosting the internet in general...and really loving it.
Going forward though, I'm hoping to just capture small thoughts when they come to me, and to compile them into journal entries like this one. While my favorite aspect of Hive has always been the social interaction, a close second has definitely been having a free space to share my various projects and keep something of a journal.
Anyway, it's good to be back, and to see so many of the greats still on here putting out quality writing.
