The term “capsule wardrobe” has been used to describe a minimalistic view towards fashion, and has been gaining popularity recently!
Have you ever wondered if this concept will work for little kids?
Over the course of the past few months, I have noticed something I never did before:
The kids can “survive” on a minimal number of pieces of clothing! 😯
Part of the reason for this could be my doing laundry almost every single day, as “white noise” while the kids sleep to prevent them from waking each other up, out of boredom as there’s nothing more interesting for me to do, just because... and I realised that Callum can get by with only 4 onesies! And Zach probably 4-5 sets of clothes (currently shorts and t shirts)!
Upon realising this, and only a tad too late as C is our second son... I’ve been feeling incredibly guilty about the humongous piles of near new clothing that fill every cupboard in our home. I’m ashamed to say that I have bought SO much for Z I could probably dress 5 little kids daily and still have spares!
So... here are my top tips to decluttering your kids’ wardrobes and living your best minimalist “capsule” life!
Take EVERYTHING out of the wardrobe! Throw everything in a pile on the floor or whatever.
Go through everything and only keep enough sets of clothes based on how often you do laundry. I would suggest 7 pieces MAXIMUM of each item of clothing, NO MORE! I’m sure you do laundry more than once a week especially if you have kids like me.
Rotate through the clothes so they get worn evenly. Unless your kid loves their superman t shirt and wants to wear that everyday...!
Yard sale any items you don’t need, give them to a friend, donate them to charity... get rid of them!
If you are not sure if you need an item but can’t bear to part with it, leave it in a “maybe” box and put it away somewhere out of sight! If you have not needed it for 3 months, it’s GONE too!
I’d love to hear from you if you have tried a capsule wardrobe for your kids, or yourself even! Please leave a comment with any tips you may have! ☺️
