I think the word Islamophobia should be understood fully.
From mulsimvoices.org "In Arabic, the word “Islam” means submission or surrender – however, it was derived from the root word “salam”. From this root word, you can also derive the words peace and safety. Many people feel that Islam implies some sort of enslavement to Allah, but others find it more helpful to define the word “Islam” as surrender."
According to wikipedia, phobia is: "a type of anxiety disorder, defined by a persistent fear of an object or situation.[1] The phobia typically results in a rapid onset of fear and is present for more than six months.[1] The affected person will go to great lengths to avoid the situation or object, typically to a degree greater than the actual danger posed.[1] If the feared object or situation cannot be avoided, the affected person will have significant distress.[1]"
Okay, so at it's most basic integration of meaning of the word islamophobia must mean: And anxiety or persistant fear of submission or surrender to Islam.
Given the historical context of the creation of the united states, is this not an entirely predictable reaction to an outside force that wants to impose its moral and political will on people who hold freedom, democracy, liberty and enjoyment of bacon as their highest set of values?
Well, that's all very nice and highfalutin and all. But I think we know what's really going on. The redcoats are back, drinking tea and pushing moral superiority; only this time they have a secret weapon. Being brown.
While I could write an essay pointing out the logical inconsistencies of the Koran (and indeed all religions) that is entirely beside the point. The liberal left of America is ready to denounce the principles that made the concept of social justice possible largely due to post modern moral relativism; and is not willing to engage in a dialogue. The following thought pattern is illustrative of the problem:
"Who are we to denounce genital mutilation, the beheading of homosexuals and the hatred of bacon? My post modern professor told me that science is just a construct of patriarchal oppression therefore: 1+1 = attack helicopter."
This kind of thought pattern is abhorrent. Calling it a pattern is like failing to house train your puppy, letting it shit on your rug a thousand times, then pointing out the central distribution of shit is evidence that your mutt has an interest in symmetry. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's how they designed the UC Berkley Campus.
