Last night we witnessed the very first Balacat Festival which is a celebration held in the city of Mabalacat, in Pampanga province, Philippines. This festival is a colorful and vibrant celebration of the city's cultural heritage, pre-colonial roots, and other traditions like the "lubenas" ( shown in the photos). As a Filipino woman who has experienced many local Festivals, the sight of the lubenas still fills me with awe and wonder.
Lubenas is actually done during December or Christmas season by the Catholics. This photo shows the lanterns that were used during the said procession
Each barangay or place in the municipality of Mabalacat had their own presentations and the lubenas is just one of them. I think this is my favorite
