The Bangladesh Liberation War
The Bangladesh Liberation War also know as the Bangladesh war of Independence, was a revolution and armed conflict sparked by the rise of the Bangali nationalist and self-determination movement in what was then East Pakistan during the 1971 Bangladesh genocide. It resulted in the independence of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
- The students of the university of Dhaka and other political activists defied the law and organised a protest on 21 February 1952. The movement reached its climax when police killed student demonstrators on that day.
- Then.... The central government relented and granted official status to the bengali language in 1956. In 1999, UNESCO declared 21 February as International Mother Language Day.
