"If Barcelona Want Nico, Pay the Full Clause" Athletic Bilbao’s President Stands Firm
In a firm and uncompromising statement, Athletic Bilbao president Jon Uriarte has made it clear that there will be no negotiations with FC Barcelona over Nico Williams unless the full €62 million release clause is paid in a single payment. “If Barcelona want Nico… they must pay the full amount,” he declared, shutting the door on any form of installment plan or financial flexibility.
This tough stance reinforces Bilbao’s long-held reputation for standing firm in the market. Meanwhile, Barcelona had hoped to follow a model used by other clubs, such as Arsenal, by paying the full amount but in structured installments. Uriarte, however, swiftly dismissed such possibilities, emphasizing the club’s zero-tolerance approach when it comes to negotiations involving their star player.
Behind the scenes, Nico Williams is still keen on joining Barcelona, and reports suggest there may already be a personal agreement between the two parties. However, the deal remains on hold due to Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions and their current inability to register the player.
Complicating matters further, Bayern Munich has emerged as a serious contender, reportedly offering a net salary of €10 million plus €2 million in bonuses. Despite this tempting offer, Nico appears committed to a move to Catalonia, prioritizing his desire to play at Camp Nou.
For now, the saga remains in limbo. Nico's future hinges entirely on whether Barcelona can secure €62 million in cash upfront while navigating the tight constraints of FFP — and whether the player’s preference will outweigh Bayern’s financial muscle.
