On Saturday I headed out early to the plant sale. I was disappointed, only finding 1 of 10 herbs I still needed, ashwagandha. I did a quick shopping and headed home. There was a new tag sale sign on the way, so I stopped. I found this Christmas decoration (I need more Christmas like a hole in the head) and it came home with me.
They also had a clock that didn’t seem to be working and they gave it to me. I spent a while trying to get it to work but it’s dead. Too bad as it was pretty and I had 2 places I could have used it.
I had lunch and got ready for my granddaughter’s 2nd ever baseball game. Tom was picking me up as it was on his way to do the milk run. We were about 45 minutes late getting there, as Tom had morning commitments. But I’d only missed an inning or 2.
My granddaughter was soon up and as this is only her 2nd time playing, she had a hard time hitting. These are all first graders in this league.
Back on the bench she and some others were doing cheers for the teams.
She was soon out on the field and I don’t think she found that very interesting. She was messing around with dirt and wind, and looking at ants a good deal.
Back on the bench, with her mom as volunteer coach, she did more cheers.
One of her times up, she managed to connect and made it to first base.
Heading for second base…
She made it! Then she made third base.
Another hit brought her home.
The games are only 6 innings, they get 6 swings and 10 pitchs per time up. They did the well done line up and then circled for the end of game cheer.
It was a pleasant low key game with both sides clapping and cheering for anyone who managed to connect with the ball.
Her mom had found these signs and posted one at both dugouts. I thought they were great! I’d wanted to get a photo of it but forgot.
It was amazing the size discrepancy between all the first graders. One of the coaches did the pitching and for one tiny girl he was down on his knees tossing to her. Some of the kids were pretty good for their age.
The final score was 10-10.
She invited another little girl over to play. They live in walking distance of the fields so we walked back to her house. I’d gotten giant organic strawberries for a post game treat and brought the 4 robin’s eggs for them to try to blow out.
You may recall her last visit to me where she was making preparations for her stuffed wolf family to travel by plane to see her grandparents in Oregon. Well she’s still playing with those wolves and now has a wolf skin she wears while playing. She’s howling here.
I visited with her mom for a while and then she brought me home. My granddaughter wants chickens again and her mom had sold all the equipment when she got out of livestock. So I loaned her one of my nettings and I bet they have chickens before the week is out.
On Sunday my brother and I are going to my mom’s. He made his lemon squares that she adores on Saturday night and on Sunday morning we will make the parsnip chowder before we leave.
The plan is to take her out to get flowering plants for her yard and then plant them. Then have a nice lunch and visit.
