Last night New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge broke Mark McGwire's record for homeruns by a rookie.
Judge went into the game versus the Kansas City Royals with 48 dingers, one shy of tying the record that was set in 1987 of 49.
The 6'7" slugger smacked two last night to break and set a new record yesterday in quite a show of force.
With 50, Judge now stands alone with the record. The giant outfielder has 13 in the month of September. He's still got a little time to add to his stats too with a handful of games left in the season.
Judge slumped after the all star break after setting the world on fire in the first half of the season. He's returned back to form now after many questioning if his first half stats were a fluke.
Pitchers had time to adjust to facing the slugger and started to feed him pitches up in the zone and hammering him in on the hands.
It appears Judge also adjusted and is chasing less up high but he's still striking out at quite a clip. His 203 strikeouts leads the league in that category but he's also leading in walks with 120.
Any team would forgive his strikeout numbers for the production he gives to a team and he's also a pretty decent fielder to boot.
It'll be interesting to see how he fairs in his second season after everyone's had a better chance to analyze his game and formulate a plan to deal with the behemoth slugger at the dish. Before that though it looks like the Yanks are poised to make some noise in the postseason.
With the win last night against KC, the Yanks are now 4 games back of Boston for the AL lead and only need one more win to clinch home field for the AL wildcard spot.
Tune in to as we wind down the regular season battles and gear up for the postseason!
