There are at least 3 interesting prospects that call the call for the show this week, so we'll discuss it here.
J.P. Crawford- Phillies
JP is a prospects I've been rooting for since his 2013 draft because he looked like a multi-tooled shortstop ala Troy Tulowitzki. Flashing great defense and a nice slash line, he was a 1st round pick by the Phillies. Some people touted him as the next Jimmy Rollins, but he hit a wall as a prospect and his growth slowed down. Well, I'm happy today to hear that this dude finally got the call. He might not move Freddy Galvis out of the way at SS, but with Maikel Franco struggling at 3B, he might supplant him at that position. Rooting for ya, JP.
Walker Buehler, Dodgers
Buehler, Buehler, Buehler....Walker Buehler is a long time coming. When he was sidelined by an injury after his draft, I was quick to say that it was a terrible pick. Why waste a 1st round pick on a future reliever? Walker Buehler has since proven me wrong, establishing as one of the best pitching prospects in all of the minors and setting himself as a clear #2 prospect in a stacked Dodger farm. Although he'll be mostly be used a relief during his September call up, I think he'll make the rotation next year and make an impact next to Yu and Kersh.
Austin Hays, Orioles
It's surprising when a minor leaguer barely stays in the the minors and the team, even during a "call-up" season in September. Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber are among the handful of prospects that were used this way. Can Austin Hays join the ranks and play like those guys? He's certainly shown that he doesn't belong with the scrubs in the minor leagues, that's for sure. The Orioles have been looking a little stagnant lately, so this is a good move by the organization to bring some fresh bodies in.
That's all for now! I know Alex Verdugo was called up on Friday but he's been...well, worse than advertised. Still, he's just a kid, so I expect him to adjust.
