On April 6, 2018 I gave the above talk on stage at Block2theFuture in Oakland. It's a 12-minute introduction to what basic income is, a bit of its history in the United States, and a summary of the evidence that exists in support of it.
Basically, UBI is a missing structural foundation that causes a multitude of problems in society that we could reduce and even entirely eliminate, if we simply constructed that foundation. Meanwhile, the cost of constructing it, would actually cost us less than what we spend not having it, on things like worse health, more crime, less education, and the reduced productivity that results from a lack of engagement in involuntary labor.
