I'm looking through old photos for Beach Wednesday. Our big holiday of a couple of years ago has a few. We had a few days in Hervey Bay on the east coast of Australia where we took a day trip to Fraser Island, which is the world's largest sand island. It has a number of lakes. We took a swim in Lake MacKenzie. That's my wife's feet pointing at our kids with me testing the water. It wasn't that warm, but then it was their winter.
It's a beautiful place with pure sand and water. I assume there are no fish as there's no way for them to get there naturally. This is all rainwater.
There's a 75 mile beach down the east side of the island that is classed as a road. It's also a runway and we took a flight in a small plane that gave us a great view of the island. As well as this old wreck we also saw some whales.
There are dingoes on the island that are fairly pure bred as they haven't mixed much with dogs. There are lots of signs warning people to not feed them. We were lucky to see a couple of them as we toured in an off-road bus.
It's one of those places we want to go back to and properly explore.
