Many people might be surprised to know that I wash my hair about once or twice a week. I might not go 6 weeks like this girl, but I try and go as long as I can. It’s healthier for your hair, it allows your color to last longer and most importantly you are not spending 20+ minutes blow drying your hair every day.
The first thing I hear when I tell someone this is “I could never do that, my hair would be so greasy!” The best thing I can tell you is it takes some time to get this process going. Start by washing your hair every other day, then every few days, and so on. This process takes time, discipline and a good dry shampoo.
My top picks that I use frequently are:
- Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo
($6, ULTA, CVS, Walmart)
This one is by far the most affordable and works great. I really enjoy this line of products. To use just spray at your roots and brush out.
- Alterna Caviar Dry Shampoo
($22 Sephora, Ulta, Beauty First)
This one will set you back a little bit more, it is a powder dry shampoo that I feel absorbs a little more of the oil. I love the slim tip, it really helps you get the powder under your hair so you don’t look like George Washington.
- Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair
($38 Amazon.com or a salon near you)
Kevin Murphy somehow has created the most intoxicating scent in his products. I know this one is about 4X the amount of my top choice, but it works great and people kept asking me if I got a new perfume!
- Johnson’s (or any store brand) Baby Powder
($4 Grocery, CVS, Walmart)
I usually have one of my other selections at all times, but if not baby powder is my go to! You need to be careful not to overdo it, but baby powder does a great job at keeping your hair fresh in between washes.
