I do like movies with Jason Statham and I don't mind them being packed with action and violence, and Jason Statham always being stronger, better, and smarter than anyone else. So, I looked very much forward to watching The Beekeeper, and now I just finished the movie. Was it worth it?
To be honest, the movie started out nicely and I greatly enjoyed the first 30 minutes. After that, I must say, it became too much superhero and just violence upon violence upon violence and a somewhat boring plot. In other words, if I had to watch a Jason Statham movie over again, I would probably go for one of the Transporter movies, or my absolute favorite, Spy. Of course, in Spy, he is a stupid undercover agent who has a big face, but does everything wrong... but it is a very cool role together with Melissa McCarthy.
A positive thing about Beekeeper is that it makes viewer a little bit aware of the dangers of viruses and calling and receive help from support here and there, without really knowing what's going on. But, that entire thing is finished after 10 minutes, and then starts the payback time for the criminals who have scammed lots of people.
The fact that it suddenly introduces a secret agent clan that works next to the government without anyone knowing about them also makes it all more stupid (at least to me).
So, if you just want action and violence and a poor story, The Beekeeper with Jason Statham might be something for you!
