Howdy, Beer Lovers! Because I've never been a beer drinker (gasp! 😨 "what's she doin' here?) I thought that meant I couldn't hang out with you fellas. But recently, I was told that #beersaturday was not only bro culture-free, but that I could post here on this rainy day in Leeds even with my half-pint of Inch's Medium Cider.
Inch's Cider is crafted in Hereford, UK, and was created to prevent surplus British apples from being wasted. The company supports British growers, reduces food waste, and helps keeps traditional orchards going.
The taste is crisp, bright, and refreshing. No sweet cider with this Medium draught. And the name is a wee nod to the Brit phrase, "give him an inch..." so just because it's not beer doesn't mean the drinker ain't up to some mischief.
Just inside the Kirkgate front vestibule of The Palace is the framed sentiment, "Proper North," which is a reference to the set of values associated with those who are from the North of England — meaning that they're straight-talking but warm, have grit and don't complain, are truly funny, and carry a confidence that doesn't need polish.
Open the door to the old public house and find yourself welcomed. Step right on up to the bar for your order, or take your seat and snap the QR code to speed things along.
The Palace typically keeps a couple dozen beers on tap, but if you look to the right of the Guinness draught label, you'll see my Inch's label there giggly to be lined up next to her hoppy brother bevvies.
The Palace is such a gorgeous example of Leeds Dockside historic preservation. I claim it as my "local" and come often.
It feels so welcoming when each time I step up to place my order the old-fashioned way, the barkeep always asks me, "are you okayyyyy?" Every time I'm asked, I fall a little deeper in love with Yorkshire and all them who are Proper North.
A Meet Up
Thank you for letting a cider drinker like me crash your beer drinkin' party. Whenever you find yourself up north The Palace is where we can meet for a pint and geek out on Hive.
Speaking of a meeting up, I'm organizing another small #hivefriends meetup on 21 February at 12pm. If you're near or can hop a train to Bedfordshire, hit me up on Discord (alessandrawhite) or a Hive chat and I'll share the deets.
A #buzzparty meetup! 21 February at 12pm. Bedfordshire, UK. For deets DM alessandrawhite on Discord.
