I had no intention of having a beer tonight, but I was cleaning out my fridge and I found one! This is like finding money in the pockets of some old jeans!!!! I had purchased this can of Sun King Brewery “When The Lights Go Out” Coffee Porter a few weeks ago and totally forgot about it. Jackpot!
This Coffee porter was just what I was in mood for. It was rich with coffee roastiness, a little more creamy than usual for a porter, a little sweet, but incredibly well-balanced. It wasn’t too indulgent, but still delivered a lot of flavor. Great Tuesday night beer. Love the can art, anything to do with flying saucers is awesome to me.
Sun King is brewery based in Indianapolis, Indiana USA. They have been open for a few beers, and while far away, I have had the chance to try a few of their beers throughout the years. Like many breweries in neighboring states, they wanted a piece of the giant Chicago beer market and started offering their beers here, where they became available at most beer outlets around me.
A beer that you didn't expect is the best kind. In the scheme of porters, this was hardly the best tasting porter I have had, but the fact I didn't even know it was coming made it really special. Made me think, at some point, maybe I should hide beers around to find them? But then maybe I would start looking so it wouldn't work. Can someone tell my wife
