For the last couple of days I've been pretty busy sampling some lovely beers at the Jolly Brewer Beer Fest 2017.
This is an annual festival run by my local pub, The Jolly Brewer. It's a great pub, I would say it is the best in my town by a mile. Their beers are always in good condition and the atmosphere is great. They also won the Campaign for Real Ale pub of the year award twice.
The publords also run their own brewery called Baker's dozen and if any of you ever have the chance to try their beers you definitively should as they're lovely modern brews. Unfortunately they do not sell bottled beers yet so I guess it would be quite difficult to find them outside of the East Midlands.
Anyway, another year another JB Beer Fest.
This year's glass is quite pretty and it sends a clear message, heh.
My used up menu, it went through quite a bit of a beating.
I sampled a fair bit of this year's offer. Can't really choose a favourite but London's Anspach and Hobday's Passionfruit Berliner Weisse was gorgeous.
Stoney Ford is another brewery based in my town and they're known for using only local ingredients. Their Stamford Sprucester was beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised to see a gruit in their offer. In this one they exchanged hops for spruce tips and the resulting brew is really interesting. It sold out pretty quick as well, only making it to the second day of the fest.
They were also offering their emergency services. Their Alebulance was ready for any situation that might arise; it's also got its own page if you want to have a look.
When there is such a large selection of beers I was bound to find some that I did not really like. For example Bexar County's Vegan Vampire juice really was not for me. At all. On the other hand their Young and Unafraid - kombucha soured elderflower, yuzu and black lime pale ale was bold and a pleasure to drink.
Elusive Brewing disappointed with their Felix And the Fruit Machine but redeemed theirselves with the Hazy Duke
Today's the last day of this years Beer Fest and I'm probably going to walk down later and try a few more, they need help after all in emptying all those barrels, heh.
Thanks for having a look guys!
Cheers
