Primeiramente vou explicar o que é uma cerveja trapista, que talvez você que esteja lendo não saiba. Cerveja trapista é uma categoria de cerveja bem específica. Para ser considerada trapista a cerveja tem que ser feita em um mosteiro da congregação trapista, apenas pelos monges, sem fins lucrativos, apenas para cobrir o custo de produção e distribuição.
Assim que um mosteiro atinge todos os requisitos para se tornar um produtor autorizado ele recebe um selo da Associação Internacional Trapista (Trappist International Association). Dos 171 mosteiros do mundo apenas 11 estão autorizados a produzir tais cervejas. Destes 11 eu já pude provar rótulos de 5 cervejarias.
Por ter este rígido controle e séculos de tradição as cervejas trapistas estão entre as melhores cervejas do mundo. Há centenas de anos os mosteiros trapistas são conhecidos por receber viajantes e andarilhos e oferecer hospedagem a quem necessita, oferecendo também seus produtos, principalmente cerveja, queijo e vinho.
E veja bem, trapista não é um estilo de cerveja, visto que um mosteiro trapista pode produzir qualquer estilo.
Agora vamos a cerveja. A Rochefort n. 8 está entre o top 50 das melhores cervejas do mundo, obtendo nota máxima em sites de avaliação de cervejas. With a dark brown color and good foam formation, very dense, almost a cream, and with a very sweet and smooth aroma with touches of caramel and vanilla, and in the taste it maintains a slight sweetness of caramel and a little nut and coffee, very delicious. Alcohol well present, almost liquorish. I recommend everyone at least once try a Trappist beer and fall in love.
