Welcome to the first ever Live Tipples beer Review ..... Where I wander to the fridge pick something that's in there and Review it
The Beer is Black Dog Brewery's Junk Yard Dog DIPA.
A DIPA is a double India Pale Ale, or to put it simply a big hoppy beer.
Some background. Untappd tells me there are at least 6 Black Dog breweries - this one is based in Australia, and more specifically on a winery in the town in Taminick about 300km north of Melbourne. It's run by a lovely man named James Booth, I bought this beer from the man himself when I was there about a month or so ago.
As you can see it's packaged in a can (Did you know the best packaging for beer is a can, or as I like to think of it a tiny keg) it follows the same packaging theme as everything else in their range or the black dog. I've meet the now sadly deceased dog before - his name is Macka, he was awesome and the only dog I've ever meet with a brewery named after him.
Also whilst we are at it what's with dog names in craft beer - Brew Dog, Dogfish head (Yes I know it's a street), parrot dog, flying dog, Thristy dog, sea dog, moon dog, Hop Dog?
But what about the beer itself? It's big - 9.0% and it's a big sweet malt bomb, with what I imagine are a truckload of hops to attempt to balance it out, which it almost does, although you are left with a calm relaxing bitterness rather than the feel it in your cheeks ache that you can get from a feel double IPA's out there.
All in all at super solid beer and well worth searching out if you are in or visiting Melbourne Australia if you like you beers
a) big
b) balanced
c)fiercely independent
