Beer Review - #38 - Cascade Lager
Source
Brewed by:
Cascade Brewery, Hobart, Tasmania
Alcohol Content:
4.4%
Beer Type:
Pale Lager
History:
Cascade Lager, also known as "blue", is a traditional full strength lager. Although it is not as widely available as the other varieties across Australia, it has a cult following, particularly among uni students. Brewed in Australia's oldest operating brewery, Cascade Lager is one of the traditional brews produced at the brewery. Cascade Brewery was established in 1832 and is Australia’s oldest continually operating brewery. The brewery is rare in that it produces its own malting for its mainstream beers from locally grown barley.
Availability:
Cascade Lager is available for purchase in:
375 mL bottles, 375 mL cans and 750mL 'long-necks'
Drinkers Review:
Simply amazing beer, Tasmanias best kept secret. Mainlanders should be jealous such an offering isn’t available widespread across the country. It has a beautiful golden hue, with a perfect head and perfect carbonation. It's taste is amazing. The label for this beer has barely changed since the 1950’s and is has a real cult following in Tasmania. Firmly cemented as a legend in Tasmania, and it will take a whole lot more then a fancy label to sway its drinkers.
I must say I am a little biased though as I drank more than my fair share of this beer whilst at University in Hobart. Although it is a 'macro-lager' it is only mass-produced in small quantities for a local market. If you see any about, grab a few tinnies and get-em in-ya!
