One of the perks of my new job is that we can leave early on a Friday. Just after lunch today a group of us caught the train to Hitchin to attend the beer festival.
I've not been to this one before, but some of my colleagues had. There were over 150 beers and ciders on offer. You pay for a glass and beer tokens then dive in. You can go for a third, half or full pint of any beer. There were a range of foreign brews available, but I sampled a few of the British ones. I went for:
- Saltaire Raspberry Blonde: A refreshing starter that tasted fruity
- Tiny Rebel Cwtch: A red beer with hints of caramel
- Magic Rock Common Grounds: Very dark porter with a strong coffee taste
- Dorset GIPA: Had a hint of ginger. I was expecting more of a ginger beer. Wasn't crazy about it
- Hornes Triple Goat Pale Ale: Nice light beer
- Brentwood Marvellous Maple Mild: I quite like a mild and this was a good one
- Prescott Hill climb: An IPA to finish. Not bad
There was a long bar with loads of barrels behind it.
There were also a selection of food wagons. I had a veggie burrito.
As you can see the sun does shine in the UK. Considering we had heavy showers in the morning we were very lucky with the weather and loads of people turned out.
I didn't stay too late. I'm not out to get totally drunk. It's an opportunity to sample some different beers and I'd rather remember the experience.
Cheers!
