In my neighborhood there are plenty of unkempt yards. I'm one of the crazies that chooses to let my wild lettuce and dandelion grow tall and go to seed. I do this to preserve what little bit of "wild" that tries to survive suburbia. Now I seek a balance of creating an edible and pollinator friendly landscape while pleasing the neighbors who would look at my landscape as shabby. The difference is, I do care about my yard, yet my aesthetics are concerned with birds and bees not a perfect lawn of grass. It isn't about honeybees alone, as there are countless pollinator species which are threatened, and I will fight for them. In my little patch of earth, there will be a home for the bumbles and what little things we choose not to see.
