Filthy to Clean, Water taste better with Berkey.
This is a side article to my "Escaping a War Economy is Self Preservation" articles. I've currently have 3 Berkey Water systems which take 4 Black Berkey Filters each. So I got a lot of those Filters before moving to the PI. Trust me the water delivery systems in a 3rd world country are limited to two technologies. 1) Osmosis and 2) Distillation. Both which make water taste like shit; water is clean but the water is weird tasting i think. Why? Literally is it me or is water in its purest form without some elements taste like Hydrated air? I used to use services like home delivery water jugs which is basically the huge 20 gallon blue jugs of water. I never liked it because those guys are out to make a quick buck. They don't clean the blue jugs properly basically all they do is:
"put some dishwasher soap in, it fill it up with water and shake it all about. Blue jugs is what i'm not all about."
hahahahaha.
You think i wanna trust a service that recycles blue water jugs and clean it with dish-washing liquid? You can take that shit to the grave, no thank you!!!
So Berky Filters was the way to go since it was gravity fed and after doing some test runs using the water that comes out of the faucet in this country, holy shit! i was impressed and started to get more filters and more systems. In total i have 3, why 3 you ask? I believe in redundancy. And if shit hits the fan, i can make some good money or barter filtering water.
Anyway why Is Berkey fucking awesome?? I'll tell you this, at the end of each month, i now do it at the end of the week, i have to literally clean the SMEGMA off this shit. hahahhaah. Seriously, it catches all the dirt and impurities in the water. It literally is doing its job. Sure the filter is clogged with brownish mud looking debris, but when the water comes down the other end, the water is amazing fresh and good. Not once had i have a complaint by guests who said the water is bad. Mind you, this is the same water coming out of the faucet. The Berkey water filters, the black filters, are by far the most amazing filtering devices i've seen work in a gravity fed system. I don't have to boil the water, that is how awesome this shit it. However i do not want you to think you can take sewer water and filter that shit and drink it straight with this system. All Im saying is the other water filtration systems don't even come close to the clean taste this thing gives you.
Britta is a fucking joke. My aunt uses Britta and complains why the water doesn't taste as clean as my Berkey System. I believe its because Britta uses like sand and stones or something to filter out the heavier contaminants. However the smaller contaminants i don't think it gets that out. The water you get from a Britta filtered system makes the water taste dull.
Berkey is like compressed space age stuff and uses like a micro pore method of getting both heavy and small contaminates out of the water. Somehow it keeps certain elements, i don't know if that is a good thing, but not once have i gotten sick from drinking tap water filtered by a Berkey.
The only down part is that the Berkey system even at 4 Black filters at the same time, if you fill the entire thing up to the brim, and even if the filters are clean so its working as fast as possbile will get you a good 4 Liters of water easy in under an hour.
Because im running two systems, so 8 Black filters total, the wait time is not as bad. This country is fucking hot period!!! So i have to drink lots of water, thankfully my fridge can support so many water bottles to hold all this awesome filtered water.
If you ever are moving somewhere and permanently, i suggest getting a Berkey water filter, invest in getting some filters as well. Each filter has a shelf life of 3 years. So in my head 3 years but using 4 filters at the same time will hopefully extend it out to 12 years at the most. But the manual and the site say that each filter can only do about 3000 liters each. Since i've done the math maybe 12 years is wrong, more like 2-3 years total with 4 filters going at the same time.
Anyway go out and get one or as many as possible. Most importantly get as much filters as you can especially if you are living out in a 3rd world country.
