You may have noticed the lack of featured posts published on a regular basis lately. Well we got a lot of reasons other than being busy. When curators have the time, we sift through recent posts, old posts, and several days old post eligible for pay out. We also have to do anti plagiarism checks on a regular basis.
Comparing the amount of time spent between flagging and curating, it’s obvious that spotting abuse posts has become the simplest thing to do. Given the amount of shitload of shitposts this platform has due to the level of tolerance people have for abuse. It’s nice to see a community reinforcing core values that add value to the platform because a community that knows how to police itself can entice growth.
(Yung ratio ng shitposts ngayun is like 8:10, pag hindi shitpost, decenteng post pero may kulang sa quality at effort from the author. Meron bang format o desenyo? May orihinal na gawa? May bagong ideyang tinatalakay?
Right now, when people make a blog post, they’d wish or expect that the payout is going to the moon just because of the overselling that staying in the platform pays. The trending page isn’t helping and it’s all damn illusions of quality bought by bid bots. Veteran bloggers had to spend an average of 3 years to build a reputation and start earning something substantial and most authors quit during their first year. When the price of steem and sbd went down and people started earning less, spam and shitposts are now more noticeable than ever because the decent authors got discouraged from the crypto’s value (probably one reason).
Nothing one can do about that. You see, the value of this platform isn’t in the steem or sbd alone. Its value is dependent on the community that believes it in. One of the reasons why curation exists is to highlight quality content from authors worth raising visibility. But you already know the story of abuse and the reality of how steem power is used when people just want to self jerk or are in the platform for the money.
Trying to post around keeping people motivated to produce quality is like lighting a candle in the wind, with a rain, and it isn’t even lit in the first place. Instead, a more visible and feasible act one can do is support efforts that reduce spammy and plagiarized content from milking the rewards of the platform from the undeserved users. This account will now be flagging abuse posts according to the guidelines set by SFR and Steemcleaners.
Anong message ba gusto nyu maibigay sa future users or current status quo?
Imagine nyu nalang na and platform is isang larong tug of war.
When you downvote a post, the pending reward on the post decreases in proportion to the power you have and it goes back to the reward pool. When it goes back to the reward pool, there is more available rewards for everyone else who do good in the platform. This is responsible usage of SP because it support healthy growth of other users in the platform. For people that believe they can post the hell they want in the blockchain and that may include abuse, your point is valid, this is decentralized after all.
No regulating figure to watch out for. We wouldn’t want other people to tell us how we act online or live our lives, but this doesn’t mean all our acts are acceptable or healthy for the community we are in. This is a social media platform where everyone can see what you do. The blockchain does not discriminate shitposters or quality posters. But if we tolerate such behavior, we just contribute to the habit of keeping this platform’s value low. Trash content kills the platform and quality build this platform.
(Masyadong mahaba mag translate.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I’m lying in bed
Eat my bananacue
Anyway, that’s it for the latest update on BOPH happenings.
