tunnels, chutes, and trees have many physical functions in common. all three channel water, are gateways from one medium to the next, and eventually collapse. the first instance is immediately evident. the second may become more evident when the function shifts from water to air; like a para-"chute" safely lowering its passenger or the conversion of carbon dioxide to oxygen by photosynthesis. as the first two functions might compel any creature to utilize these devices, it is the last characteristic which ought most intrigue any intelligent soul ;who seeks to maximize the efficiency of energy. and it should be this reason why chutes should be solely employed.
