Hi Friends,
I recently picked up a new rum to give a try, so I am going to do a review on it today.
The rum is named Jonah’s Curse and is a black spiced rum. It is a traditional Caribbean rum, and the description from Total Wine and More (where I purchased it) says the rum is “blended with 12 traditional spices” including “Vanilla, cinnamon and oaky notes on the nose - roasted pineapple, mangos and bananas not eh palate”.
The name appears to come from the Bible story of Jonah, and, accordingly, portrays a large whale rising up to eat a ship. It is a potent rum at 47% abv.
I tried the rum neat, and it did not disappoint. The aroma was please take, and the rum was smooth and flavorful - I easily picked up the slightly fruity finish. While a rum purist would likely feel the spices take away from the rum itself, I enjoyed the complex flavors and the strength of the brew even left my lips tingling. Overall, it was very good and I give it a 5 out of 5!
Thanks for stoping by,
Brian
