I had to make a second revision after discovering the power supply I wanted to use did not output voltage while charging from the solar panel, not good. As a result, I started putting together a battery pack out of 8x AA rechargeables with high amperage.
I was thinking is there any shot one of those little cheap 5 volt phone backup batteries we have provide enough amperage to do the job? The answer is yes to my surprise. It also has a charging control circuit built in so I don't need to use my solar controller, this thing knows when to stop charging it's battery.
When analyzing the simple math of the projects needs here's what I came up with: It needs to draw between 1.2-1.3 watts at over 7 volts from source 12/7 in order to maintain it's full charge. That was data I discovered on post 1 of this project. So I need a full charged power source who by sundown can give me let's call it 15 hours of run time(night) to eliminate low sun on both ends of each day.
15 hours x 1.3 watts per = 19.5 watts of source, that's nothing.
Here's the alleged specs on this $10 battery pack we have 3 of sitting in a kitchen drawer doing nothing:
The casing with solar wire power grommeted in then zip tie used as a strain relief:
I doubled up some feet for the bottom of the tablet to let give it some breathing room. My intentions are to put a temp reader in the box so I know when it's hot enough/time to put passive ventilation in box and elevate it some:
So here is the final circuit:
The solar panel came with plenty of length that would me allow to put the miner box in a large rubbermaid storage unit I have on one side of the house that never gets direct sun.
This project has been running on Minergate.com for a week off solar but will be pointed at https://www.nicehash.com/ as of tonight for maximum profit and to trickle bitcoin into my phone wallet.
But for now, here it is, at approx. 12 1/2 inches wide by 18 1/2 inches long, A solar powered Monero miner at $0 cost to me:
chugging away between 16 H/s and 49 H/s
In case you missed them, here is part 1 and here is part 2 of this project which will probably fill in a few blanks as to how I got here.
I hope you like my first posted steemit project. Please feel free to comment, ask questions, share & upvote.
Until next time, have a great rest of your Sunday,
Here's a single picture of one of many past projects, can you guess what this one does?
I'll give you a big hint, "Slow Down There Mr. Porsche Driver".
