In 2017, I visited Israel, Palestina and Jordan and will share here some of my pictures from Biblical places related to our Savior Jesus Christ and some other major Biblical characters and events.
Our last stop was Nazareth and today, we will visit Mount of Temptation located very close to Jericho. The picture below shows the mountain that is considered to be the place where our Lord Jesus was tempted by Satan. The picture is taken from Jericho old city.
Mount of Temptation
- location: right next to Jericho, about 25km north-east from Jerusalem
- importance: traditional place where Jesus fasted and was tempted by Satan for 40 days and won over all the temptations
- personal observations:
- very steep mountain
- old Jericho is completely buried in ground (it's simply underground city)
- beautiful small canyons in that area with monasteries built directly on the rocks
Old Testament
Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
-- Exodus 24:18
New Testament
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.
-- Luke 4:1
