A Piping Plover on Marconi Beach
Cape Cod National Seashore
Good Morning! Last week I spent some time on vacation at the Cape Cod National Sea Shore. Cape Cod is home to some of the most beautiful and well-preserved beaches in North America. The preservation and conservation efforts provide a home for roughly 370 different species of birds. Piping Plovers (as seen in the photo above) are some of the most critically endangered shorebirds on the Cape. The Atlantic population of Piping Plovers is currently estimated at less than 1800 breeding pairs. Since becoming a protected species in 1986, the population has rebounded a little, but they remain a priority for population management.
This picture was taken on Marconi Beach. The little Piping Plover walked fairly close to me as I sat in the sand watching a pod of seals off shore.
Have a #BeautifulSunday
and a great week ahead!
