I have read a lot of bad Bird Box reviews, so my expectations for the movie were much lower as I yesterday actually got to watch the movie. And guess what, I was positively surprised!
First of all, it is amazing that a movie like this is given to us directly on Netflix. This is a movie that for sure would deserve a place in the cinema, and I even believe it would have been a giant box office success if it was released in the cinema. According to an article I read yesterday, more than 50,000,000 people viewed Bird Box on Netflix in the first week after it was released, that is pretty amazing!
Let me tell you, I am not a big fan of scary movies, so thrillers are not really my category. Luckily, this wasn't too scary, but still, it kept me stuck in my sofa for two hours! I have another family member who said she watched it in three parts, because it was too scary, so she needed a break a couple of times.
The Bird Box (the plot) - no spoilers
Suddenly people start committing suicides everywhere. Some kind of phenomena, or object, or something like that, makes people go crazy as they see it, and after that it is only a question of seconds before they end their own lives. The only way to survive is by staying indoor (and close all windows and keep it dark), or by walking blindfolded in order to not see whatever is causing the mass-suicides to happen.
The story is interesting, and we meet Sandra Bullock who survives the first wave of suicides, and later has to fight hard to stay alive as most of humanity is wiped out.
If you want to watch a good thriller movie on Netflix, this is brilliant! There is no need to change your Netflix region, as this is a Netflix original which can be found in all Netflix regions worldwide.
My thoughts about the movie - DO NOT READ IF YOU PLAN ON WATCHING IT
I had a great time watching the movie, and I am really enthusiastic about it. I knew about the bad reviews of the movie before I watched it, and I couldn't understand why as I watched the movie. The only reason, the way I could see it, was that the end of the movie had got to be bad, poor, or disappointing. In other words, I expected a disappointing end while watching the movie.
And to be honest, I felt as if the end kept a lot of questions unanswered. For example, what was the actual phenomena that made people commit suicide? Will it keep on forever, or will there be an end to this phenomena anytime? Did I really wipe out 99,5% of the earths population, and was it only a very little amount that survived? Will all the survivors have to live in fear forever after this?
Safe to read again!
Bird Box is a great movie, and I can warmly recommend it! :)
Have you seen it? How did you like it?
