I was taking a walk from my brother's camp in Maine, and came upon a flock of mixed sparrows when this cute little guy posed well enough for a photo. Lincon's Sparrow Melospiza lincolnii is one of my favorite sparrows. I love the buffy color of the facial and breast markings, as well as the subtle gray and almost greenish hues that can more be imagined than seen on some views of the back areas.
This species breeds in wet areas at higher elevations, but in fall and winter joins mixed flocks, favoring brushy thickets and edge areas.
I use eBird to keep life lists of birds seen in every state, and this was a Maine lifer for me.
Good birding and good day!
