Usually the Squacco heron lives in Africa but for breeding it comes to europe. Most of the time Italy and Eastern Europe but Austria is a unusual visiting spot for them. Although last year I had the luck to find one here in Upper Austria after a birder told me a spot where it has landed for some days. It was only a short term visitor and I am happy that I found this species and was even able to take some pictures of this unusual bird here.
