Canada Jay Perisoreus canadensis is also known as the Camp Robber, as they can be completely unafraid of humans, and will eat off your picnic table, or if you want to impress your children, out of your hand.
Steller's Jay *Cyanocitta stelleri is widespread in the Western U.S. and is our most common jay, all dark colored in our area, with a black crest. They are noisy and pretty easy to find.
California Scrub Jay Aphelocoma californica is a species that has pioneered north on the west coast. 40 years ago it was rare in Washington north of areas adjacent to the southern border along the Columbia River, but now it has spread up most of Western WA.
As a group our Jays are generally loud, agressive and pretty easy to find in the right habitats.
Good birding.
