This was a pleasant surprise to spot this bird at my feeders yesterday.

This time of the year is unique for bird watching as it presents opportunity to observe migratory birds. Such was the case yesterday as this colorful bird paid a visit to my yard.
I very rarely see this bird but I have in the past during migration. They are passing through on their northern journey for the summer. I do not see these any other time of the year.
It is interesting as I only had one of these birds, only the male. I was looking for a female which looks totally different, but did not see one. This bird was eating normal: food and also Niger seed. It was here all day, but to my disappointment, did not return today. The weather was nasty today, however, with a cold rain and wind so maybe it was just hiding out. Yesterday was a nice sunny day.
I will keep you posted as to whether this bird returns.
