This is my very first post here in steemit.
I discovered it after hearing someone mention steem and steam power on a YouTube video. For the rest of the video, he was talking about Bitcoin and that he was going to buy more steem with it.
That was the only clue I had that steem had something to do with cryptocurrencies - so I did a little digging. That's another way of me saying I 'Googled' it.
And now, here I am writing my first post!
Aren't cryptocurrencies exciting?
I remember hearing about Bitcoin on the TV news back when it was launched. I thought it was a fantastic idea even back then.
I also remember thinking how I would like to own some of this new form of money.
As the years passed there would be the occasional mention of it in the news: It's gone up in value. Someone lost a hard drive with millions of dollar worth of Bitcoin on it. More people becoming Bitcoin millionaires, and so on.
I had no idea how to get any. Although I knew how to create a web page or two, my skills with the technical and programming side of computing were (and still is) lacking.
Eventually I started watching YouTube videos about Bitcoin and discovered I could get some through a process called Mining. Then just as I thought I could connect my PC to some server somewhere and mine bitcoin, it became clear that my computer would not be powerful enough and I would need a 'rig' set up using a bunch of expensive graphic cards...
I always seemed to be two or three steps behind the times when it came to getting my hands on Bitcoin. I eventually settled for joining a mining pool - one day.
It wasn't until mid-May 2016 when I purchased my first bitcoin. I remember opening an account with Coinbase and buying part of a Bitcoin which I thought was very expensive at the time. $390 they were!
In January 2017 I purchased a Mining Plan with Genesis Mining and have been enjoying a daily deposit of BTC into my wallet ever since.
I've also lost a few Bitcoins on... OK I'll say it... scams.
Mostly though when I've purchased Bitcoin it's been to send somewhere as payment.
I also have a little Ethereum and Litecoin too just to hold on to as an investment.
But my very first Cryptocurrency I ever owned was a coin called ScotCoin!
Yes, there is a coin out there called Scotcoin and I had at one time 300,000 of them!
I think I still have 50,000 somewhere.
These coins were set up for the people of Scotland, which is where I'm from surprisingly enough.
My first ever cryptocurrency purchase was with Scotcoin! I bought an inspection lamp of all things from someone living not too far from me who also had a Scotcoin wallet.
I'm not sure just how popular Scotcoin will become as most people would just use Bitcoin anyway, which is the backbone of Scotcoin.
Now, here I am writing my first post in steemit, and looking to expand my steem holdings!
I also wish to learn how to use exchange sites like Bittrex as I love the idea of trading cryptocurrencies. It's time for me to watch more YouTube videos and educate myself some more.
I'll never stop learning as I know that I don't know what I don't know.
