Australia could see more than 2900 Bitcoin-enabled ATMs in operation, in a joint venture between StarGroup and DigitalX.
The joint venture between the 2 companies will see 2900 of StarGroup's exisitng ATM be equipped to convert Bitcoin into cash, and cash into Bitcoin.
It appears that Bitcoin has reached the stage where mainstream large scale ATM rollouts are becoming economically viable. The project is dependant on Stargroup developing software for their ATMs to process Bitcoin transactions, and for DigitalX to deliver an API to facilitate them.
Australia currently only has 16 Bitcoin ATMs, mainly in Sydney and Melbourne.
