I am not an expert or developer simply a cryptocurrency user opting to deposit my Bitcoin in a wallet, hold my keys sit back and watch what happens. I agree, with the problems Bitcoin is having there needs to be a change to move forward. There is probably going be a hardfork happening soon and we will have two or more Bitcoins same as what became of Ethereum with it's two chains.
The Contenders: Leading the pack BIP 91 (Segwit2x) curently at 81% signaling and requires signaling over 80% for the next hundred plus blocks to be activated. BIP 148 UASF (user activated soft fork) active on August 1st, gaining traction but will eventually hardfork if activated. Running last an alternative Bitcoin client BITCOIN ABC (a hard fork) by Bitmain, so that SegWit would remain inactive in one blockchain while the BIP148 would see SegWit activate on the original Bitcoin blockchain.
Sometime next couple of months there will be an adopted WINNER hopfully for the benefit of all Bitcoin users.
