Hello steem people :)
I wanted to share a terrible experience a friend of mine just had, with the hope I can help others avoid this scam. Basically my friend wanted to clean his coins and move them to an anon wallet. He had used an exchange which required him to show an ID but he wanted to use the coins to fund a DarkWeb Market account so he needed a way to "tumble" his coins and have them sent to a wallet he set up anonymously. This way he can fund his DarkWeb account from his untraceable anon wallet. HelixLight is a service that allows you to send them bitcoin and they give you new coins which cannot be tracked back to your original exchange wallet, where you gave your personal info. They charge a very fair 3% fee for this service. After Helix sent the coins to his anon wallet he would use these coins to fund the market account. Remember its important not to send the coins from helix directly into the marketplace account and you should always use a second wallet for this. This second wallet should only be accessed through tor and should have no connection to your real identity .
This is what they exchange looks like:
Exchange wallet (exposed ID) -> Helix Tumbler produces new clean coins --> anon wallet --> Market place!
The problem occurred when he watched a youtube video on how this was done and the video said to use the link below in the description. The link he was told to use was helixlight.us. My buddy was suspicious it was not an onion site so he googles helixlight and the first link that popped up on google and duckduckgo was helix.us, so he felt more comfortable thinking this was just helix's clearnet site. There was nothing in the search about it being a scam and the page was exactly what he saw in the video and on other tutorials. So unfortunately he sent the money to helix.us. Hours later after it was confirmed the money was sent to helix, the helix site still read that it was waiting for the transaction. It turns out helixlight.us is a phishing site and he never got his coins back. After he realized what was going on a deeper search revealed that this phishing site had scammed thousands of new BTC users and is still active to this day stealing from the btc community. The moral of the story is to not trust links and if you want to use Helixlight get their onion address directly from their official helix sub-reddit. Stay vigilant and stay safe friends.
