According to a senior manager, the eBay trading platform is seriously considering accepting Bitcoin as a payment method. With this year’s Christmas business it will be nothing more. Like Yahoo! Finance reports that it could take a while before it launches.
If the marketplace would implement this idea, it would undoubtedly be huge news.
For the first time, a global marketplace with over 170 million users would accept a cryptocurrency.
That will end up on the front pages of every news site and probably cause Bitcoin and other currencies to rise sharply!
Right now we can only speculate on how this might work, but clearly, the volatility risk of accepting the cryptocurrency would rest with the seller.
Another issue eBay would have to settle is how to deal with dissatisfied buyers. There is no good clawback system with cryptocurrencies, so if eBay had to refund a buyer on a cryptocurrency purchase, it would have to have some means of charging the seller with a credit card.
Type “Bitcoin” into online marketplace giant eBay’s search bar, and you’ll discover an absolute plethora of bizarre items which loosely relate to the world’s hottest cryptocurrency. There are more eBook investment guides than you could read in a lifetime, pointless pieces of circular plastic with the assumed Bitcoin logo emblazoned upon them, mining contracts and components for rigs, hardware wallets, and there are even people who have listings for $10 worth of the currency curiously priced at around $1.50.
