Even though Planetarium has received a whole lot more applications, the studio has been able to allow over 1500 users closed beta access to their upcoming blockchain-powered role playing game Nine Chronicles. The South Korean game studio has plans to announce the official release date for their game next week.
According to the game studio they've received over 70 thousand applications of gamers interested in joining the closed beta. Whether Planeterium will first do an open beta test or will immediately release the game completely, is something we will hear next week. However, the game can already be found on Steam with the announcement that Early Access will go live this Summer.
The closed beta didn't even offer half of the content for the full release, according to a blog post by the Nine Chronicles team. Yet, some players were extremely active, replaying the same content over and over again. Item creation is by far the most popular feature during the beta. It allowed players to create weapons and gear by using ingredients found in the game. After that players can either use the newly created items or sell them on the marketplace.
Planetarium is building their game on a player-driven blockchain. That means that the players will be hosting the nodes to keep the blockchain live. As long as the players want the game to live on, the game will be there. In addition this also means that there are miners acquiring Nine Chronicle Gold (NCG). During the most recent and seventh beta test over 20 gamers activated this functionality, allowing them to earn the in-game currency while keeping the network live. There's an explorer for the custom blockchain as well.
Nine Chronicles completely opensource
Gamers with some technical know-how will be able to add their own content to the blockchain RPG Nine Chronicles. South Korean game studio Planetarium builds this blockchain-powered game on its own Libplanet blockchain. This network is integrated into Unity. In addition it’s completely open source, empowering the community to add their own content to the game. Or, if they want, fork the game and create their own version.
The developers at Planetarium promote the game as a ‘fully decentralized RPG powered by the players’. According to them gamers can play, mine resources (and therefore make money), trade (and make money) and govern the game world together. As a result gamers will have some form of political power in game world.
