Ha! Yes, a great point and even now cash can still give us that anonymity and help us out, which is why it is so important we do our best to preserve it. But as I'm sure you know the financial establishment want rid of cash, I just hope they don't succeed.

By the way cheques were great for some anonymity. All the bank statements would reveal is a cheque number and amount, and you were not obliged to write the payee on the cheque book stub! Great for frustrating the endeavours of snooping eyes!
