Have been an exciting year for crypto, there have been a boom of 18 mia usd marketcap to over 124 mia usd. (https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/) This boom have created a lot of questions where to get bitcoins and were to trade for altcoins (Ethereum,Ripple,NEO,Litecoin)
I will list 4 options with some fun facts.
1. Coinbase
Coinbase allow debit, credit card payment as well as wire transfer. Backed by The new york stock exchange, the Bank of Tokyo.
You can buy bitcoins, ethereum and litecoin on the platform with fiat.
Fees 3.99% if you buy with debit card.
Been in the game since 2012
Fun Fact : @coinbase now store 2.9M Ether of the 83M in existence, or about 3.5% of all Ether HT
2. Poloniex
Poloniex doesn't support directly purchase of bitcoin from Fiat currencies as USD,EUR,GBP.
you can only deal with crypto assets on this site, no fiat allowed. If you want to trade there, you have to transfer some Bitcoins first.
Poloniex have been in the game since 2014.
Fun fact : They were only recently legally incorporated (2/9/2016), in delaware, by a "virtual office" called vcorp services.
3. Bittrex
Bittrex got the same features as Poloniex and doesn't accept directly purchase of bitcoin from fiat.
Bittrex are becoming the largest true cryptocurrency exchange, since poloniex have lost some trust over the years with downtime and some coins can't be withdrawn.
Bittrex have been in the game since 2011.
Fun fact : Bittrex has been around now for 6.years without a single security incident.
4. Kraken
One great thing about Kraken is that you can trade over 10 different cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Dash, Ethereum and Zcash.
You can use US dollar, Canadian dollar, Japanese yen and Euro.
Kraken have been in the game since 2011.
Fun fact : They were the exchange apointed to oversee the distribution of the remaining of MtGox, the bankrupted exchange.
