The Invictus project at Saxion University in the Netherlands has started a project to prove that investment clubs can use the BitShares blockchain as a backbone for their financial products and services. Saxion University has approx 25000 (international) students and 1500 teachers – growing by 4000 students each year.
Invictus is an educational experimental investment club for students. There are approximately 300 investment clubs in the Netherlands sponsored by educational institutions and local citizens and businessman.
Invictus aims to prove that investment clubs can use the BitShares blockchain for managing their investment portfolios. This includes shareholder administration, issuing shares (the Invictus token) and debt (the Saxion Euro), and investing in various global blockchain initiatives.
The project also demonstrates the benefit of transparency provided by the BitShares blockchain. Investors can be more comfortable with where their money is going since it can be traced on the public blockchain. They also enjoy the cost and labor savings that come with traditional auditing.
For the rollout they will use their own Saxion wallet in cooperation with BlockPay, a Munich based blockchain based payment system. The rollout will be marketed by issuing sponsored consumption coupons. The intention is that students can pay with those coupons and also use their own created tokens for special events or at the local caterer.
If the objectives are met, the other 300 investment clubs will be informed and through research proposals and internships by students.
Invictus also serves as an example for student start ups and entrepreneurs of how to fund your own business through crowd sale and issuing tokens (shares/lending).
In the meantime, other Universities and local communities that are looking at building their own financial ecosystems have also expressed interest.
Ronald Kramer, w.r.kramer@saxion.nl, in cooperation with Cryptonomex International, is providing management and technical guidance to the project. Contact Ronald Kramer on LinkedIn.
“I’m excited about the potential of all these graduating students entering the global financial industry with a full appreciation of blockchains in general and the BitShares Decentralized Exchange in particular,” smiled Kramer.
BitShares has begun training its next generation of power users.
