Whew... I feel really hungover today. The word choice there is rather important. Note that I said how I feel hungover, not that I am hungover. My New Year’s Eve was a veritable whirlwind of inactivity, devoid of alcohol or any mind altering substances stronger than high fructose corn syrup.
I remember learning in some random high school health class that age can be looked at in a few different ways. There’s our chronological age (the amount of time that has passed since our birth), our physiological age (our physical status influenced by fitness and genetics), and our mental age (the age which we’re mentally developed to, how we think and act). My New Year’s Eve’s are often a perfect illustration of these principals.
I often represent my own ages as chronological = 38; physiological = 72; and mental = 12.
As such my 72 year old body was fast asleep on my sofa by about 9 PM on New Year’s Eve. I was woken roundabout midnight by the popping nosies of celebratory fireworks and cursed them like a cantankerous old man should. Groggily awake my inner 12 year old soon took over and reached for a PS4 controller and I rung in the start of 2019 by playing some Kingdom Hearts. Yep... way to start off the new year right, with that flurry of productivity. (</end sarcasm>) This mindlessly stretched on until about 5 AM wherein I dozed off again on the sofa, bringing us pretty much up to the present time.
It is now the first day of 2019, time for fresh starts and dreams to be forged, as I struggle to stay focused, nursing cricks in my neck and back as I eat a nutritious breakfast of banana bread and Coca Cola. (ok, </end sarcasm> starting... now)
So I’m glad I could thrill you with that amazing story of my eventful night and subsequent ”hangover”. I think it really has some serious entertainment appeal and I’ll be pitching it as the storyline for a new Hangover movie sequel.
In all seriousness, I’m not one much for New Year’s Resolutions, but it is a time of reflection and I at least form some vague concepts and desires in my head that I know I should pursue in the year to come. One of those nebulous ideas in my head is the desire to blog and post more. So this little ramble is the first truly productive activity I’ve engaged in for 2019. Maybe... just maybe... I am starting off the new year... ”right.”
I hope everyone had a very safe and happy New Year, and I look forward to days of 2019 to come, spent with each and every one of you!
