This is a good start. I'd suggest starting trying to animate with a bouncing ball. A lamp is deceptively difficult because it's not an item actually made for movement. It takes someone who knows how to animate to fake movement onto it using principles of squash and stretch, and giving a sense of realistic weight through the timing and spacing. A ball allows you to practice timing and spacing without having to worry about overlapping action yet.
