Vanuatu is a small country in Pacific Ocean which obtained independence from France and England in 1980. It has around 280 000 inhabitants and it's main economic activity is fish exports.
What makes it interesting is the fact that they have a citizenship program which grants the citizenship to anyone who is paying an amount of approximate 200000 usd. They announced they are now accepting Bitcoin as a mean of payment and just released the following statement:
Many early investors in Bitcoin would like to realize some of their earnings without incurring large capital gains taxes. Ideally, then, they would convert their cryptocurrency into tangible assets in a low-tax jurisdiction… As Vanuatu will now be the only country to offer citizenship for Bitcoins, I think the program will see a surge in interest more or less immediately.
The Vanuatuan citizenship allows visa-free travel in 113 countries. Among those countries is European Union, Russia, and Great Britain.
