So it's another sort of reference of, you know, patronage and artists doing their crazy stuff in between. But that's a fascinating world, that marginalia in illuminating manuscripts. I, you know, yes, this is very true, but I like if earlier also Victoria was mentioning, one woman was mentioning, about how sometimes they would hide things, but think about all the, you know, the cartoons that we see, and the political cartoons, and the caricatures they create, and again, in the past, how many of us, if we studied English literature, Canterbury Tales, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and all those writings, and all the times when the government was being made fun of through different paintings, music, and songs, and writings.
And so, yes, it has always been very amusing to watch, like, the Time magazine shows cartoons now on the front page, but they've been having that in front of the king's face, and they would make it while they're still under their patrons. And I think it's really fascinating to study. Cartoons are a really good example.
Like, cartoons I grew up with as a kid, I look at now, and I'm like, oh my gosh, that's just pretty bad. Like, look at Hawthorne and Lighthorn, or Yosemite Sam, you know? Like, some of these characters were not good characters. And we were being subjected to these characters as kids.
And I look at it back now, and I'm like, oh, they don't make cartoons like they used to. I'm like, they don't have frying pans, and explosives, and Wile E. Coyote's not being blown up anymore. He's, you know, a big purple stuffed thing, you know? How about Pepe Le Pew? I mean, wow.
Pepe Le Pew, that had serious... Oh my god. You know, very stereotypical, very, you know, like... Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, even Portrait of Sexuality.
Yeah, Pepe Le Pew. I mean, he's constantly sexually assaulting the poor cat, you know? I mean, it's funny, but it's not funny. So, not in today's world it's not funny, because a lot of it has become reality that things... Unfortunately, it gets translated now totally differently.
