When i booked my ticket to come back, i was expecting to spend time with my grandma at her home. Unfortunately, she has been taken to the hospital with salmonella poisoning and that has meant a two week stay in the hospital already. Hospitals aren't my favorite places and staying in a five bedroom ward in her condition is tough. Everyday for at least 6 hours.
Salmonella
For most people, salmonella usually means an upset stomach, diarrhea and a recovery after 3-7 days. If it gets into the bloodstream, however, the infection becomes a lot more serious and the organs are at risk, along with a lot more pain. It's tough seeing my grandma like this and i hope she recovers soon. She was looking better yesterday till about 4:30 p.m. and then took a sudden turn for the worse. She needed to be sedated with painkillers. Going to see her again when visiting hours start.
Somehow, i feel like this whole episode could have been avoided if her caregivers took better care of her. Just like you do with babies, you need to take the same precautions with the elderly. No raw food, make sure food is hygienically prepared.
