Pretty freaking crazy wind storm hitting British Columbia right now, wind has knocked out power for many on Vancouver Island.
Total of 808 power outage areas reported so far across all of the west coast with approx 335 on the island alone, it’s a large island 😅. Reported to be one of the largest seen in years reeking massive havoc and infrastructure damage, many will be out of power overnight if not days.
In Duncan a tree killed a man making for the first reported fatality of this storm but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of more by the morning.
Seen quite a few videos online with people at the water front some of them walking out onto peers to capture intense footage. I would have been one of them if I was off work during daylight hours, sadly I was working.
Reported that 300,000 are out of power as the storm rages on. I tell you driving home was a challenge, swerving all over the place just trying to stay in my lane. It’s not surprising that damage like this has not been seen in years, even our tent shelter just outside the door has been destroyed and it was fairly secure.
BC Ferries has been forced to cancel all major routes on and off the island because of the intense winds making for unsafe voyage. That also may have to do with power outages and we most likely we won’t find out till the morning when sailings will start and how many waits to be expected.
So here we sit in deafening silence, we couldn’t cook thus our food is in a cooler with ice as the power has been out since 1pm and it now almost 11pm. We are fairly prepared for a situation like this and do have plenty of candles, blankets, and meal ready food stuffs. I managed to find a McDonald’s open on the way home but not much else, nice to have a warm meal after work even if just fast food.
Now the biggest problem we face for the evening, what game do we play?
