~ Happy Valentines Day ~
I thought this would be the perfect day to tell you the story of how Jon and I met.
I actually met Jon long before we started dating at a friend of mine's kid's birthday party. He was her next door neighbor. It was a brief meeting and we had nothing more than a casual conversation that day.
At the time, I was in a troubled relationship and was not there looking for a date. Not that my friend did not try because she hated the man I was with.
My friend put quite a bit of energy into telling me all about Jon and how she thought we would make a perfect couple. From then on, that is all I heard from her. I was not interested though because I was still far too deep in my failing relationship.
When that relationship finally ended my friend was hot on my trail about Jon. I was not ready to think about dating yet and I wasn't too crazy about the blind date thing either. I also had concerns about what it would be like if Jon and I didn't work out. He was, after all, my friend's neighbor.
After some soul searching and going on a few dates with men that I did not click with I decided to have my friend give me Jon’s number. At that point, I just thought it would be nice to have a friend to go see movies with.
Our first phone conversation we talked for two or three hours. We both felt a connection we could not explain but we did not let each other in on that fact just yet.
We decided to meet at the mall for our first date. We didn't have any definite plans but we had discussed that we could do dinner, a movie or both. Our main goal for the date was to meet and hang out face to face.
Jon actually did not remember meeting me at the park, the first time we ever seen each other. He was busy chasing his son around that day and my hair changed drastically between our first two meetings.
His cell phone rang a half hour into us walking around the mall. It was his sister letting him know their mother was on her way to the hospital. He got off the phone with a torn look on his face. He apologized in a way that showed me he thought I might think he was ditching me.
To be honest the thought had never crossed my mind, so it's a good thing he was not. We walked to our cars; I hugged him and told him to go make sure his mom was okay.
From that point on we talked on the phone daily. We spent as much time together as our lives would allow and we had no interest in looking further by dating others. It was almost like neither of us really had a choice and it was just meant to be.
We have the same goals, wants and morals in life. Our personalities blend perfectly. We have a lot in common, but enough different to keep it interesting. To put it simply, we fit each other like a glove.
That was back in 2006 and we still feel that way.
I will see you all after work.
